New Cover!

Fame and fortune is a blessing that, for me, has changed its taste from sumptuously sweet to murderously bitter. Leaving me no choice but to look over my shoulder at every turn and question the scruples of even my most faithful friends.

I would give up all the glowing adoration from my fans in a heartbeat in exchange for not running for my life. But fate doesn’t deal cards that way, and instead I find myself far out at sea and being bounced between two hot cops—one so chilly just his glance gives me frostbite, and the other showing a kindness that barely covers his own demons.

So with nowhere else to turn, quite literally, I have to trust two men I hardly know with my life and cope without the luxuries my status usually affords me. But it’s not long before I discover when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Turns out these cops are not only the wrong guys to mess with, they also have partnership skills above and beyond the requirements of their day job. And for once, while just being me without the frills, I get to discover that they are as sinfully bad as they are dreamily good in every department, and it seems, I am the one they want cuffed and controlled at the same time as they are protecting and serving.

E2 - OUT NOW!

This story is also available in the anthology Brit Boys: On Boys.

Archie survived The Change, when the sky turned red and rocks rained down on Earth, destroying one half of London. He lost everyone in his family—and his job as a fireman. Now he works in an office, his life filled with uncertainty and terror. Something isn’t right. Infomercials on the TV tell him how to live, how to dress, and how to conduct himself. He has no friends, his world reduced to loneliness and confusion.

More confusion is on the way in the form of Dan, a man from The Other Side, the part of London where people live like rats and harbour disease. When Dan tells Archie what’s really going on, life is even more sinister than Archie thought. The government have been lying, and everyone on Earth has no choice but to comply with their wishes.

The two men strike up a friendship, and together they plan to do as they’re told and live as best they can. But the government has other ideas; Archie and Dan once again face a frightening and heart-wrenching experience. One they are supposed to forget…

Spliced Blog Tour Day Three

Whoo hoo! Day three of the tour, and we're having so much fun!

What was the most difficult part when writing your story?

Sarah - Stopping haha! I could have gone on and on writing Sharkorilla. I affectionately referred to him as Sharkboy while writing, and I’ll always think of him that way instead of Mason. The world, the sense of freedom I got—it matched the emotions our shifters felt when escaping the compound. I rooted for them all the way, and to me they are real people. I know it sounds mad, but they became my friends, people I wanted the best for, and I love them all.

Lily - Making sure all the stories in the series worked together. The shifters start out escaping from the compound, and it’s a while before they splinter off. The plot had to be consistent in each story for it to be believable, but we nailed it!

Lavinia - I’d never worked on anything where I had to consider what other people were writing, so it was a challenge to make sure all the stories fitted together seamlessly. But I love being challenged like that in my writing because it makes the work all the more interesting.

Jambrea - Making sure everything matched up with Sarah, Lily and Lavinia!

What was it like writing as a set of four authors?

Sarah – Brilliant. Brainstorming, helping each other out, laughing…oh, we have laughed so much throughout this, to the point my stomach hurt. Tears streaming down the face and all that. It’s nice, as well, to work with people who understand what you’re trying to do—we all had the same goal, and to know three others have your back, well, it’s like you’re not so alone in this writing gig. Four people as one, kind of thing. Might sound mad to other people, but it’s like we became one author made up of four. Okay, maybe the funny farm is the place for me, but that’s the only way I can describe it.

Lavinia - It was a lot of fun. It was a little challenging to ensure that the stories meshed, and there were a couple of tweaks we had to make at the end when we’d read the other three stories, but overall it was a great experience and I’d say we worked well together on the stories.

Lily - Fun, challenging, intense, supportive, and hugely rewarding.

Jambrea - It was pretty easy. I think the four of us worked very well together. Time zones can be an issues sometimes.

Here are the blurbs!

Spliced Series:

When scientists mess with the most primitive elements of a man’s core, the results are bound to be explosive.

Living a loveless existence is hard for any shifter, but having DNA spliced with creatures who stand out from the crowd is damn near impossible. Which is why four experimented-on souls decide to break free from the chains that hold them, climb the fences that circle them, and go in search of adventure, passion and most of all, their mates.

But nothing worth having is ever easy, and for Sharkorilla, Pugorilla, Kangorilla and Elephorilla, this is definitely the case. They’ve come to the end of one very long, hard and frustrating road, but now, with the help of men who have big hearts, they must shed their fears, accept their bodies, and be true to the desires that burn within them. The only problem is, will they get away with it?

Please note, Spliced can be enjoyed as individual stories, but reading in order enhances the pleasure as you get to see the progression of the shifter's sexy adventures.

Sharkorilla – Mason has been tasked with the job of helping his fellow shifters escape from the compound. Two techs need his help to ensure the breakout goes smoothly. One of those techs, Brennan, has a thing for Mason—and Mason has a thing for Brennan too.

Once Mason and his three friends are out of the compound, running for their lives across the expanse of the Yorkshire Moors, Mason wonders whether they’ll manage to be free for more than the time it takes to speed farther than a few feet. Freedom—the feeling of it is addictive, and Mason wants more of it. He isn’t prepared to give it up without a fight.

With Brennan by his side, Mason knows he can accomplish anything. There is one burning question, though. Can Mason really accept who he is? Can he learn to love himself as half shark, half gorilla? If he doesn’t, he has a feeling life won’t be all roses, despite being free of the compound.

So, he’ll just have to give his new life his best shot, won’t he?

Pugorilla - After being created in a lab, his DNA spliced with both canine and primate genes, Dex has spent his entire life locked up. He has always longed to see the outside world and to find lasting love with that one special person—dreams he never thought would come to fruition. Yet when he and his friends discover a plot to kill them all, they have no choice but to plan an escape. A life outside the walls of their compound is everything that Dex has ever hoped for, but there’s only one problem—James, a lab technician who Dex can’t seem to get out of his heart or head.

Kangorilla – Joey has it tough. Not only has he been spliced with a kangaroo and a gorilla, he’s also been brought to the other side of the world. Feeling exploited, desperate and wishing he had love, companionship and acceptance, he takes the risk of leaving the compound in the search of happiness. But will he find it? Or has the person he’s drawn to got other ideas? It certainly seems that way as the temperature goes from boiling hot to downright frosty.

Elephorilla - George hates change, but when his only two options are death or escape, he runs away with his friends into the unknown. Will he be able to find not only a new life, but a new love?

Flash Fiction - Get Out of my Kitchen

What are you doing in my kitchen? It’s too hot for you in here. Get out! There’s the mouldy stench of old cheese. There’s rancid lettuce in the fridge, and on the stove is a saucepan, the contents bubbling away, releasing tainted steam that you could breathe in. Yes, get out. You’re virtuous, pure, and anything as obscene as my kitchen isn’t for the likes of you.

I see past the veneers, those shiny pearly whites that smile, belying what you’re keeping inside. Those teeth, they’re liars—they’d take a bite out of my arse if I’m not careful. You think I don’t see that, but I do. I’ve always seen it, yet I chose not to say.

Your kitchen—now, there’s a thing. It’s cooler than mine, the temperature several degrees lower. It smells of cinnamon, vanilla, and caramalised sugar—mixed spice and all things nice. Your saucepan contains a gentle, simmering, beautiful concoction, and the steam coming from it filters through the air, out of your windows, and shows the world that you’re perfect, just perfect.

I’m standing in your kitchen, and beneath those delicious smells I scent the distinct aroma of bullshit, some years old, some freshly deposited, and you think I can’t smell it, but I do. And your saucepan. It deceives the eye. It is indeed bubbling over—you forgot to place a wooden spoon across the top of it, look—and those bubbles are made of mass deception and rampant infection. The latter causes scabs and sores, which fester over time, creating a buildup that will one day explode. Everything then oozes out, pouring beyond your control, and you rush to stem the flow. But the mop you hold isn’t enough to soak up the spillage; therefore, you must wait until the air flows through and dries it for you.

What, you didn’t think I could see the mess? Smell the stink? See the meaning beneath those exposed teeth of yours? Silly billy. I see more than you’ll ever know.

So, back to my kitchen. If you want to stand in it, despite the things inside, you’re welcome. I’ve exposed the skeletons—the mould on that cheese is my mistakes in life, the errors of my ways, the things I’ll own because I’m happy to admit when I’m wrong. And if you don’t like the mould, why are you still here? If, despite it, you’d like to sit at my table and eat, you’re welcome there too—until you disrespect my kitchen. If you do that, I’ll watch you take your first bite.

Without telling you that the food is poisoned.

Thank You, Spliced Buyers!

I’ve been amazed at the response from readers regarding the Spliced series. All my worrying about whether our boys would be accepted, or that people wouldn’t be willing to give them a try, has been for naught. Our readers have gone forth and pre-ordered the books, many people buying all four at once, and I can’t tell you how incredibly grateful I am for that.

As a writer, it takes balls—God, do I know it!—to write something “out of the norm”. It’s a risk trying something new, because you don’t want it to put people off you or for them to dismiss you as being insane for writing a book about a shifter who isn’t just one species but two. But people never fail to surprise me, and in this case, I was so pleased and relieved that our readers have been willing to give us a chance. As far as I can see, readers are looking forward to trying “different”, and I haven’t seen any negative comments anywhere. Of course, they might be expressed in private, but again, there has been respect in that none of it has been public. I thank you for that as well.

Authors—or me, anyway—do worry about not pleasing readers. We write for you—as well as having to write because it’s in our blood, so to speak—and if we’re doing something off the wall or whatever, we have moments of crushing doubt as to whether we’ll let our readers down.

I’m overwhelmed by the support for Spliced and us as the creators. I know my fellow authors, Lavinia Lewis, Lily Harlem, and Jambrea Jo Jones would agree with me that the support and acceptance is something that is so important to us because we care about reader reactions and writing books that you will enjoy.

Already, we have charted in the top 50 on Amazon in the gay categories—on pre-orders, something that hasn’t happened to any of us before. So not only did we take a nail-biting chance on writing these books, we have been rewarded with reader loyalty. THANK YOU to all those who have purchased the books so far. I’m getting rather emotional here, because without you, our stories would disappear and our vision, our desire to bring something fresh to people, to please folks and give them something to enjoy, wouldn’t happen.

At present, all books are 99p/c and will remain so until March first. However, Sharkorilla will stay at 99p/c for an indefinite time.

I’ll end now with a hug and my sincere gratitude. You have made four authors so happy!
